Unfortunately, the Milwaukee Young Kink Scene had to go on hiatus until further notice. The leaders have their hands full and it was becoming a bit too much to handle. Thanks for all the support we got in our year of running the group!

Next meeting, and the first meeting of the new year will be Thursday January 6th. We wanted to start things off with a bang (or should I say a shock?) by doing a Violet Wand Demo.

If you don't know about Violet Wands, you can learn a little here. But that's the non-kinky info. If you want to know more about the BDSM aspect of the wand, come to our demonstration. You'll learn how it works, how to use it properly, and of course: safety first! :D

"The Psychology of Kink: Fetishists vs Kinksters"

While I think that the conversation about the psychology of kink could be an entire class -- and one best led by a professional -- a question arose between Lyndzi and I (posited by a friend of hers), and I thought it would be an interesting topic to discuss to give us a break from demo's for the month. We'll get back to demo's soon, though.

I'll give a brief run-down and back-story of the discussion, i.e. where it came from, and then I'll pose a few questions for the group to ponder over over the course of the group.

Hope to see a lot of folks there. I'm terribly sorry that I missed last meeting -- the rain, a wayward cat, and the bus system seemed to have conspired against me that evening.

July Discussion

This month our meeting will be on July 1st -- that's this Thursday -- at 8PM at the Tool Shed. We will be having a discussion led by Vesper on social protocol, scene negotiation, and related topics. Please bring questions if you have them or some thoughts on the discussion.

As usual, we will most likely walk down to The Dog's Bollocks afterward for those interested. Bring some quarters if you like pool, as they've got a good table.

On another note, I have heard whispers that there are some of the members of MYKS -- at least out of those who attend the discussion -- who are not quite enjoying themselves for various reasons. First, I apologize. It is my hope that this group is of benefit to everyone who attends, and I feel bad that there are those who are not getting everything out of it. We are still a very new group, and we're still trying to establish what we want and where we need to go with the group. If there is something particular that you would like to see or talk about at the group, PLEASE contact me and ask or discuss it with me, and I would be more than happy to work it into the schedule. I have been talking with the owner of the Tool Shed, and she is ok with us doing demos, so that is something we will certainly be doing in the future -- perhaps even as an extra night during the month.

As always, I am available for folks to message me. As the group's leader, I do my best to reach out to everyone who makes an effort to come to the group and be a part of MYKS. If you have questions, concerns, or just want to talk, feel free to message me on here any time.

PRIDE!

Laura from the Tool Shed will be walking in the Pride Parade and wants all interested to join. I'd love to see a big group this year. Boone and I walked with her last year and it was awesome. Also, if you are so inclined, it's a great reason to dress up and promote one of Milwaukee's best establishments! Here's some info she sent me:

(marchers arrive between noon & 2 pm to make signs, decorate bikes, etc.)

Theme this year: bikes!! The Pedal Pusher Society ("Milwaukee's premier women and trans bike gang") will be riding with the Tool Shed and, hopefully, decorating their bikes and doing crazy bike tricks. We will also need people walking to hand out freebie packets and to carry our banners, like last year. Brew City Bombshells burlesque will also be marching with us, although I'm hoping that they can stand on the back of someone's bike rather than walking miles in heels like last time!

So, anyone who wants to ride a bike, hand out freebies, and/or hold a banner is welcome to join us. We're buying t-shirts for the Pedal Pushers, so we can't afford to offer them to everyone, but if people want to buy them at a discount to wear while marching, I would be more than happy to do that.

Milwaukee Play Party

So Lyndzi and I attended the play party at the new Milwaukee dungeon. Though it's officially unfinished, the space was very well laid out and comfortable. To give an idea of the variety of things there:

1. 3 St. Andrew's crosses (image)

2. 3 sawhorses (for spankings/floggings/etc.)

3. Rope suspension

4. Play tables

5. Free drinks and snacks

Overall it was a good experience, and we met a fair amount of new folks, as well as folks we've met before at either the munch or previous workshops. It was educational and pleasantly fun.

However -- and this was a big issue for us -- the sense of "cliques" was apparent even here. While there were a decent amount of folks friendly enough to invite us to conversation, there were a few who were very abrasive, which was off-putting and disappointing. Some of most important parts of the community to me are the social protocol and sense of propriety that most people tend towards, and it was disappointing to see folks who had not particularly mastered that art. There was an air of pretension amongst some folks towards the "young and inexperienced" without them truly knowing our level of experience or -- for that matter -- knowing us at all. I think that sense of "these people are outsiders" was evident in the way we were treated by some of the members.

No doubt we will go again in the future; it was a good event, and I'm glad that there's a space in Milwaukee for kink folks to play at. It's not a place for new folks, though, and it's good that we've got a safe place to discuss, learn, and offer "baby steps" for those folks who aren't quite ready for "The (Pro) Scene."

March Discussion

I wanted to thank everyone who came out to the inaugural meeting of Milwaukee's Young Kink Scene (MYKS). It was great to see so many new folks interested in exploring themselves and their desire to expand their sexual interests. We truly hope to build a solid community here in Milwaukee that acts as both a resource and a support network for anyone and everyone who wants a safe place to come and talk.

For those who missed the meeting, our first discussion focused on some of our kink interests (likes and dislikes), as well as some of our intentions for joining the MYKS group. We also talked a little about our hope for the future of the group. If you would like to introduce yourself to the group, please feel free to do so in the proper discussion (it's called "Introduction"); you can visit our group on FetLife here.

We also decided that we will be meeting bi-weekly, alternating between a discussion group at The Tool Shed and an evening at the East Side munch at Treats on Humboldt. Thus, one March 18, we will be meeting there for drinks and socialization with the more established Milwaukee kink community.

The April discussion -- which will be on the 1st -- will be focusing on good communication skills, basic safety, and approaching a partner about kink. Please feel free to bring some experiences or questions to the group to add to the discussion.

New Horizons for a New Generation

We're not anti-social. We'd like to be social. We really would. But...

It's the creepers that get me.

My partner might not be as weirded out by it, but I can't stand them. Come on, you know who I'm talking about.

Those old people looking for a thrill. Those leather-clad rope-fanatics that force you into a corner with questions like, "Soooo, what's your darkest fantasy?" or, "Would you like to be my little slut?" or, "I like to be spanked with an iron pole while I wear a Catholic schoolgirl skirt and a cock ring, what do you like?" Yeah... those peoples.

And we are not those peoples. We're young and very non-creepy. We're newbs or maybe just curious. We don't want to be scared away by looming dark figures and their FetLife friend requests.

I am not saying that all veteran kinksters are bad or make me sick by any means. Some are very nice and respectful. And no one is saying that it's impossible to be under 35 and a creeper. Believe me, I've encountered quite a few. But we have to start somewhere, folks, and an age limit it be. Our group is for the 18-35 kinky crowd that still consider themselves "young and new to the scene."

Another reason we decided to do this is because we want to all be close to the same kink-level. Having a conversation with someone that's dabbled in kink for a year with their partner and only their partner is much different from having a conversation with someone that's an experienced rope-master, owner of 3 slaves, and has Domed for 20+ years. Not that I wouldn't have a conversation with said person, but I wouldn't be able to relate to them.

We want this to be a comfortable, safe-space for individuals to learn about and discuss kink. Not get drunk and hook up - you can do that with anyone. We want our meetings to happen for a reason. We want people to get something out of the group - not just a little action.
